Doug Unger "Electric" - 2000
(The banjo that Fairbanks would have made
if he and Cole hadn't split up.)

Note: all pictures may be seen in greater detail by opening in a separate window.

Doug converted a standard Vega Whyte Laydie pot into an Electric
by removing the bracket band, filling the step occupied by the bracket
band, and then mounting the brackets with decorative bolts in the
manner of the later Electrics.

The lower rim of the pot was decorated with numerous tiny mop diamonds
after the fashion of the earlier Fairbanks & Cole pots.  The heel is beautifully
carved in the manner of the highest grade Cole banjos.

With it's venerable skin head this banjo has a much lighter sound than a similar
sized Whyte Laydie pot.  It is ideal for old-time clawhammer playing.
